I Marc 4 was renowned for having an incredible Italian soundtrack style. The name I Marc 4 (or The Marc 4) comes from the initials of the groups members; Maurizio Majorna (Bass), Antonello Vannucci (Hammond/Piano), Roberto Podio (Drums/Percussion) and Carlo Pes (guitar). The jazz-beat combo were known to play and record with some of the best known and most admired composers of the genre – from Ennio Morricone to Piero Umiliani. I Marc 4, for the most part, were the band who recorded 99% of Armando Travaioli’s compositions. I Marc 4 recorded serveral albums as “I Marc 4” on their label “Nelson” from 1970-1976. Their diversity shines with styles ranging from Jimmy Smith to Italian Bossa-nova to experimental tunes with strange special effects…

Back in 1992 i was a dj in HipHopKafee Dynamo in Eindhoven. Leora was studying at that time and was doing her internship at Dynamo. In the beginning when we met, she was “just another girl”.. but on one special day, when i was spinning soulclassics from Smokey Robinson etc. instead of the usual HipHop, one of the first things she asked me was: ” Do you also have some Curtis Mayfield music”?

I was stunned! That girl who at that time was an “alternative” girl suddenly got ALL of my attention!!

I immediately dove straight into my crate of vinyl to pick that one album which contained a live recording of Curtis Mayfield! This was the beginning of our “connection”...

So the proof is in the pudding, it’s not about your etnic background, clothing style, interests or what so ever.. it’s all about Soul Connection..
